Marcin Kydryński

Marcin Kydryński, musical journalist and son of Lucjan Kydryński – the legend of Polish radio, has been working in Program 3 Polskiego Radia for 20 years, and since 2001 he has been hosting his own broadcast called ‘Siesta’. Marcin is also a producer of ‘Siesta’ albums (related to the broadcast), which have always enjoyed the success and quickly become the best sellers.
On the Siesta compilations Marcin Kydryński searches for the most interesting compositions from all over the world. In the private life, Marcin is married to successful Polish singer Anna Maria Jopek. Not only does he often compose songs and perform as a guitarist on her albums, but also is a producer of her projects such as ‘Upojenie’ recorded with Pat Metheny or ‘ID’ featuring Branford Marsalis, Richard Bona, Christian McBride, Manu Katche, Oscar Castro-Neves, Tord Gustavsen, Dhafer Youssef, Kayah, Leszek Możdżer and many others.

Marcin Kydryński is also appreciated photographer, who used to work for the National Geographic. He has been the first Polish photographer who had his own reportage with the international cover of National Geographic in the 100 year history of the magazine. In 2001 he received the reward of the National Geographic Society in Washington. Moreover, many of the albums produced by Marcin like all ‘Siesta’ albums, are illustrated with his photos. The latest and the biggest project called ‘Dwa serduszka, cztery oczy’ is the photographic commentary to his fascinating musical cooperation with Anna Maria Jopek during the last three years. In years 1995-1998 Marcin worked as an art director of Jazz Jamboree Festival. He is also known as the author of several books such as ‘Chwila Przed Zmierzchem’ (1995) or ‘Pod Słońce’ (1998) rewarded with Arkady Fidler prize. Recently he published books ‘Lizbona. Muzyka Moich ulic’ (2012 and ‘Biel’ (2016), which summarises his travels to Africa. In 2008 Marcin Kydryński was decorated by President of Portugal in appreciation of popularising the culture of this country.
Since 2011 he is the artistic director of Siesta Festival in Gdańsk, where he presents the most unique world music artists (in 2016 festival hosted Indian sitar player Anoushka Shankar for the first time in Poland, her songs ‘Beloved’ and ‘Land of Gold‘ were part of Siesta copilations). In previous years on the stage perfeormed artists such as: Mariza, Paulo Flores, Mayra Andrade, Angelique Kidjo, Fatoumata Diawara, Melody Gardot, Lura, Bonga, Jehro, Buika, Tito Paris, Yasmin Levy, Sara Tavares.
Since 2012 Marcin and 4music have organized concerts ‘Siesta on the road’ that presents world music artists in the main Polish cities.
